Did I frighten you? Sorry about that.
Some of you may know before I joined deviantART as
Now the bad things; since I joined deviantART nearly 5 years ago, I watched it change its several visual appearance for the better. Animexx didn't change once. The same boring interface every day. I don't know who wrote the HTML-code for the site but he didn't do a very good job. Almost every time you click on a link, section or thumbnail, it opens up a new tab in the browser. As I told the admins about this tediousness, they replied that it isn't their fault but my browsers. It's like that on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
Even submitting your work to the site is quite a hassle. You need to check: Are they traced? Did you use reference? Are they somebody else's outlines? If you say 'yes' to those questions you need to enter the link to the image the questions corresponds to. If your image contains very fine details, those details might not be noticeable since you have to size your image no bigger than 5000px x 5000px. You also have to select which materials you used (pencil, marker, acrylic, etc.). And it really sucks if you used more than 2 materials, because it'll only let you choose that many. You need to select which theme your artwork has: Catgirl, Zombies, Medieval, etc., which is kinda useful but you'll spend a long time scrolling through the list. And then finally you can enter you comment in the comment box and then you're finished. And all that every single time you want to submit your work.
What's that? You found an old sketch of yours and want to submit it to Animexx? Only to find out, after all that hassle and waiting, that it has been rejected because it was sketched on squared paper. Seriously? Because of that? To avoid any further disappointments, you review the rules of submitting artwork. There you are overwhelmed by the scale of restrictions they instruct you.
Which brings me to the final part of this journal: After collecting a vast amount of their currency, I've decided to start a coloring-contest with great prize money. To give the members a chance to color the actual lineart, I inserted a link to a PDF-file that I uploaded here on deviantART. Since Contests don't go through inspection, nothing happened at first. But just as someone was submitting their entry, the admins became aware of the link I placed in the description of the contest. "No external links allowed." My contest was taken down. Was that really necessary? Even though the lineart didn't collide with any of their rules, they still seized authority action. "All contest artwork needs to be on Animexx and therefor go through inspection", they added.
Okay, fine. I'll upload the lineart as a PNG-file with a transparent background. WTF?! The transparent background gets converted into their standard background color? That's bullshit! Thankfully, external links are allowed IF the link-image matches the contest-image.
So, once the contest ends and the winners get their prizes, I will delete my Profile and leave for good.
I feel better now that that's off my chest.
